Inktober 2017: Day 31 (Mask)

Custom Halloween costume?

Trying to finish all remaining Inktober prompts before sleep.

Not really based on anything, just a couple of abstract shapes. If this wasn't the last prompt of the month I might've had time to make a Halloween mask out of it. Too late now, maybe next year?

Inktober 2017: Day 14 (Fierce)

"What? Is that supposed to scare me?"

Another concept idea I had, though I'm not sure it's related to my previous world building attempt. Maybe?

I wanted to practice more perspective, so I spent a bit more time on this one. Used wolves as reference... Just over an hour from sketch to finished result, so still a bit rushed compared to my previous attempts. Plenty of issues, but like how it turned out. Mostly.

Inktober 2017: Day 28 (Fall)

"Just a little further--"

Another loose scene related to day 11 and day 13. My intention was to get through most of my backlog this weekend, though I ended up having to reinstalling my computer instead so I had to rush through this one. I also realize I'm terrible at drawing arms and legs. One of the things I should practice after Inktober is over.

Probably my worst Inktober drawing so far in terms of quality. I feel I've regressed to when I was a kid... I'm keeping it for the concept, and also as a reference point for the future.

Inktober 2017: Day 12 (Shattered)

Eggshells and dreams

I'm rushing through the backlog now, so quality is taking a dive. This one took less than an hour, most of that was spent on concepting. Possibly related to my world building attempt that came out of day 13. I'm not being very consistent with my creature design here.

Inktober 2017: Day 11 (Run)

Image: Inktober 2017 - Day 11 (Run)

"Run, Verris! Run!"

This is loosely related to day 6 (sword), and day 13 (teeming). I was going to scrap this, but I'm running out of time if I want to finish most of my backlog before the end of October. It's also interesting from an educational point of view, so I'm keeping it. I intend to do a post-mortem of sorts once Inktober is over. In short, this is what happens when I try to cram too many details on too small a paper, while not giving myself enough time to complete it.

I wanted to expand a bit on the world building I did for the day 13 drawing, by building on the day 6 drawing. Loose idea was a kid and her dragon decides to play knight, and steals a sword and shield from one of the town guards. Tried to keep it cartoony, but there were too many details for even a 0.1mm pen tip. I'm sure it would be possible to get it right, though my hand is nowhere near steady enough, and there is no margin for error... So you can barely tell what's going on in this one. I also gave up in the middle of it when I realized I couldn't salvage it.

Inktober 2017: Day 26 (Squeak)

Image: Inktober 2017 - Day 26 (Squeak)

-"Fight me!" This Jerboa, probably.

Lots of reference videos for this one, mostly because I didn't know much about the species. The way they hold their front paws reminded me of Roger from Tekken, so naturally it got a pair of boxing gloves!

The inking turned out much better in this one. Opted for thicker strokes, which minimized the uneven ink flow I normally get on this paper when trying to draw thinner lines.

Inktober 2017: Day 2 (Divided)

Image: Inktober 2017 - Day 2 (Divided)

Nessie's divided mind.

All of my original ideas for this prompt were either too ambitious or too cliché. Kept postponing it since it was already in the backlog. Eventually I just started drawing mirrored abstract shapes until this emerged. This one took a lot of ink. In fact, I just about ran out.

Went with a children book's type of art style. I like the concept, though the result feels lazy, and I don't think it's the art style that's doing it.

Inktober 2017: Day 25 (Ship)

Stealth cargo space ship.

Quick sketch and ink design, inspired by the Peregrine Falcon. Some perspective issues with this one, should've drawn perspective lines.... Wanted to add more details, but not much time to draw today.
